A selected or stabilised backfill material designed to meet ENA Technical Specification 97-1 for underground power cable installations. The specification controls thermal performance so heat can dissipate from the cable.

Compliance requires test certification for thermal resistivity and other properties. Not every ordinary cable sand meets ENA TS 97-1.
